Why the 426 Hemi Distributor Hold Down is Different
The 426 Hemi distributor hold down has a notch cut machined in the top, is straight across at the bottom and has one bolt hole.
The notch is located at the top angled area towards the intake manifold side. The notched hold down was originally produced for the 426 Max Wedge and Race Hemi engines providing clearance for their cross ram intake manifolds.
The same distributor hold down was also used on the 1966-1971 street Hemi engines even though it used a different manifold.
- The part number for the 426 Hemi distributor hold down is 2406143.
The photo below is a distributor hold down for the 426 Hemi.
The photo below compares the 426 Hemi distributor hold down to the 440 big block engine.
In addition to the notch, the bottom area of the Hemi’s hold down which touches the block is straight across. The 440’s hold down is rounded at the bottom.
An original hold down may not be as rare as some think because the same part was used for multiple 426 Race engines, not just the street Hemi.
