413 Max Wedge Firing Order: Cylinder & Distributor Location
Let’s take a close look at the firing order of a 1962 413 Max Wedge (Maximum Performance) engine.
The 413 Max Wedge engine firing order is 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2.
The firing order is the same for the Plymouth Super Stock 413 and the Dodge Ramcharger 413 engines.
This article will inform you of all the cylinder number locations on the engine. Also, where the numbers are on the distributor cap and its rotation.
413 Max Wedge Firing Order
The numbers in the firing order represent the 8 cylinder numbers of the engine. Knowing the firing order is only half the battle.
Learning the Mopar big block’s, including Max Wedge engines, firing order is one of the first things I did before and after buying my ‘Cuda in 1984.
The firing order, distributor rotation and cylinder numbers are cast into many of the Mopar intake manifolds. The 413 Max Wedge intake manifold does not contain the information.
To set up the correct firing order, knowing where each numbered cylinder is located is a must. Let’s take a look.
413 Max Wedge Cylinder Number Locations
The photo above shows the exact location of each cylinder number on the Max Wedge engine.
The left side (driver’s side) cylinders, front to rear, are 1,3,5,7. The right side (passenger side), front to rear, are 2,4,6,8.
The most notable cylinder in the firing order is #1 because it starts the firing order sequence. On a big block Chrysler and 413, it’s on the left front.
Distributor Rotation and Cylinder Plug Wire Location
The 413 Max Wedge distributor and rotor rotation is counter-clockwise.
It’s always good practice to locate the #1 cylinder on the distributor cap and start there. After locating the number one cylinder, rotate around the cap counter-clockwise following the firing order.
